Frequently Asked Questions
About Chinese Church in Christ

English and Chinese leadership group on hike (Winter 2003)

1. Is CCiC a Christian Church?
Yes. See Our Beliefs for more information.

2. What is CCiC's denomination?
CCiC is non-denominational.

3. How is CCiC governed?
CCiC follows the style of a "local church where elders administer." This is based upon the verses in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:59 and 1 Peter 5:14. There are also examples given in Acts 14:23 and 19:17-35.

Multiple elders together oversee the care of the congregation and the administration of the church. All the elders are brothers. There is no differentiation in position or seniority. Decisions are not made through democracy, nor dictatorship, but through the unanimous consensus of the elders. A decision should be based upon whether or not it agrees with God's will. We believe an unanimous consensus is the most appropriate way to affirm God's will.

4.  When was CCiC started?
In the late 1960s, a small group of San Jose State University students started a Friday night Bible study. After many changes, this "band of disorganized soldiers" started a worship service on a Sunday afternoon in February 1971. Reverend Moses Yu came with a choir group from Berkeley to assist in the first service with about 30 believers.

Within ten years, this congregation grew to several hundred. In 1982, CCiC Palo Alto was established. A third congregation, CCiC North Valley (Milpitas), was planted in 1987. A fourth, CCiC South Valley (San Jose), was started in 1992. Though these four CCiC congregations are administratively and financially independent, they maintain close fellowship ties  with each other.

After several years of exploration, CCiC Palo Alto purchased a lot in Mountain View in 1986. Construction was completed in December 1991 and the congregation is now known as Chinese Church in Christ (CCiC), Mountain View.
